Four Moroccan referees have been appointed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to officiate at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), set to take place in Morocco from July 5 to 26, 2024.

Among them is Bouchra Karboubi, a seasoned official who previously made history by refereeing matches at the 2023 Men’s AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire and has also been selected for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. She will serve as one of the central referees, alongside fellow Moroccan Sabah Sadir.

In addition, Fathia Jermoumi and Ishsane Nouajli have been chosen to serve as assistant referees.

According to CAF, a total of 46 match officials — including referees, assistant referees, and VAR operators — will be mobilized for this year’s tournament. This marks a record number of officials, surpassing the 40 selected for the 2022 edition.

The final lineup includes:

18 central referees

18 assistant referees

10 VAR operators

CAF says the expanded list highlights the growing depth and quality of female officiating across Africa, and reflects the increasing professionalism of the Women’s AFCON.
