Morocco’s prestigious “Caftan Week” kicked off its 25th edition on Friday under the theme “Caftan: A Heritage Woven in the Desert,” celebrating the richness of Moroccan cultural and artisanal heritage, with a particular focus on traditional Saharan craftsmanship as a key component of national identity.

In a festive and elegant atmosphere, the city of Marrakech hosted a dedicated fashion show for young talents, held on the sidelines of the main event. The showcase featured the work of seven emerging female designers who competed before a panel of esteemed judges, attracting a notable audience that included prominent figures from Morocco’s fashion scene.

This initiative aligns with Caftan Week’s ongoing commitment to supporting creative youth, offering them a platform to express their artistic vision and gain recognition at both national and international levels.

The judging panel included celebrated Moroccan designer Romeo, actress Mayssa Maghrebi, and designer Hussein Ait Mehdi. The jury assessed the participants’ works based on creativity, authenticity, and quality of execution.

Young designer Zineb Aqqa was awarded the grand prize, earning her a spot in the official runway show of next year’s Caftan Week. Aqqa impressed the jury with her original designs and creative flair.

Speaking to Hespress after her win, Aqqa expressed her joy and pride, describing the competition as an opportunity to highlight her artistic identity. Her winning caftans were inspired by the golden sands and breathtaking landscapes of the Moroccan Sahara, infused with elements of the Fassi culture inherited from her mother.

Held annually, Caftan Week seeks to promote the Moroccan caftan as a symbol of timeless elegance and evolving tradition. The event features a diverse program that includes runway shows, exhibitions, and interactive workshops designed to spotlight the work of Moroccan designers and artisans while blending heritage with innovation.

With a rich agenda of exhibitions, training sessions, and fashion shows, Caftan Week 2025 continues to cement its role as a leading platform for celebrating Moroccan elegance and the country’s inspiring regional diversity.
