Rabat – Moroccan music fans were surprised by the sudden removal of Fnaïre’s latest music video, “Khatwa Sayi’a” (“A Bad Step”), from YouTube, just days after its widely celebrated release.
The single marked the group’s long-awaited return to the spotlight, following a period focused on solo ventures. With its emotional lyrics and modern sound, the song rapidly captured public attention and racked up thousands of views in record time.
However, according to Hespress AR, the video was taken down after Moroccan artist Farid El Kati — brother of actor Rabiî El Kati — filed a copyright infringement claim, alleging that the melody of “Khatwa Sayi’a” closely resembled one of his earlier works. YouTube promptly responded by removing the video while the dispute is being reviewed or potentially resolved through legal channels.
Despite the controversy, Fnaïre has not commented publicly. Nevertheless, the group continues to promote the song vigorously across Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook, hinting at their confidence in its originality and their intent to stand firm.
The song was written, composed, and arranged by Mohcine Tizaf, and mixed/mastered by Mad Cherif, with the music video directed by acclaimed Moroccan filmmaker Abderrafiaa El Abdioui. Visually rich and symbolically layered, the video complemented the track’s introspective message.
Lyrically, “Khatwa Sayi’a” explores the emotional complexities of romantic relationships, addressing moral dilemmas, family responsibilities, and the daily psychological battles that define modern love.
Music critics have hailed the release as a turning point in Fnaïre’s musical journey, praising its depth, artistry, and social relevance, all while staying true to the group’s distinctive identity.
As the video’s takedown continues to spark speculation online, many await an official statement from Fnaïre, especially as the track maintains momentum across digital platforms despite its absence from YouTube.
