Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) has issued an orange-level heatwave alert, warning of extremely high temperatures expected to affect several regions across the country between Monday and Wednesday.
According to the DGM, temperatures will range between 38°C and 45°C, with the most intense heat expected in the following provinces, where highs between 42°C and 45°C are forecast:
Taounate, Aousserd, Ouezzane, Larache, Oued-Ed Dahab, Boujdour, Assa-Zag, Es Semara, Tata, Zagora, Kenitra, Sidi Kacem, Sidi Slimane, Kalaat Sraghna, Marrakech, Rehamna, Khemisset, Beni Mellal, Fquih Ben Salah, and Moulay Yacoub.
Meanwhile, slightly lower — but still intense — temperatures between 38°C and 42°C are expected in:
Guelmim, Taroudant, Benslimane, Berrechid, Khouribga, Settat, Chichaoua, Salé, Skhirate-Temara, Sidi Bennour, Youssoufia, Meknès, Errachidia, Khénifra, Fès, Guercif, and Taza.
Authorities are urging residents in these regions to take precautions to avoid heat-related health risks. People are advised to stay hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours, and check in on vulnerable individuals, such as children, the elderly, and those with chronic conditions.
